The Master's in Public Health program, attached to the School of Public Health of the Faculty of Health of the Universidad del Valle, seeks to train human talent through comprehensive academic processes.

Train professionals who can work in the field of research, teaching and Public Health actions, in public and private organizations, through the use of appropriate methodologies for the deepening of knowledge and its articulation to the transformation processes of critical situations that influence the formulation and implementation of healthy public policies.

Professional Profile

The public health professional who graduated from the Master's Degree in Public Health at the Universidad del Valle will have the skills to:

  • Monitor, evaluate and analyze the health situation.
  • Formulate, execute and evaluate public health policies and public health interventions.
  • Carry out surveillance and control in public health.
  • Investigate with a comprehensive approach the various social, economic, cultural, political and environmental factors that affect the quality of life of populations.
  • Disseminate knowledge through publications of scientific articles in national and international magazines, conferences and mass or individual social communication programs.
  • Assume teaching functions in the field of public health.

Occupational Profile

The graduate of the Master's Degree in Public Health will serve as:

  • Researcher and social leader in public health with a comprehensive approach to the various determinants of social, cultural, economic, political, environmental and biological order.
  • Planner and director of population outreach programs for health care, growth, development and aging, and the prevention of disease, disability, early death and uncontrolled hazardous exposures.
  • Health leader and administrator in different areas of public health, particularly population insurance, management and provision of health services, government stewardship and sector oversight, public policy design, research, teaching, institutional development, social organization, and health missions. advice and consulting.
  • The public health professional will be able to design, propose, lead and manage interinstitutional and intersectoral agreements related to preferential social investments to improve the living situations and working conditions of the beneficiary communities of social projects. You will also have skills for negotiation and political mediation in matters of public health.
  • The health professional will be able to carry out periodic critical evaluations: a) of the sector's functioning and its changes according to the effects; b) the operation of its institutions and services; c) the articulated and regulated performance of the general health social security system; and d) the dynamics and structure of the institutional and social processes of the health sector reform undertaken in the last three lustrum.
