The postgraduate courses of the School of Dentistry seek the development and expansion of knowledge by providing fundamental, important training in the areas of knowledge that respond to the needs of the community and the environment.

The academic training of postgraduate courses seeks to expand knowledge through research to develop clinical skills and abilities that allow us to address the different oral health problems that affect our population.

  1. To train professionals who develop activities to solve health problems related to periodontal disease, emphasizing, as a predisposing or contributing factor, systemic and general medical activities.
  2. To train professionals to make clinical and radiographic diagnoses, prognoses and execute general and specialized plans in the treatment of Periodontal Disease.
  3. Promote research as a fundamental and important element in the search for solutions to the problem of periodontal disease.
  4. Promote teaching activities that will allow the specialist to have some training in pedagogy in the future, with the eventual option of working as a teacher in both undergraduate and postgraduate activities.
  1. Degree in Dentistry awarded by a national or foreign university, according to current regulations.
  2. Compulsory Social Year completed or certified (Nationals).
  3. Degree certifications indicating grade point average and position held.
  4. Complete the admission form and pay the registration fees (non-refundable).
  5. Pass the admission tests established for this purpose by the Office of Extension and Postgraduate Studies.
  6. English proficiency exam.
  7. Complete resume.
  8. Pass the interview conducted by the selection committee.

In 1990, Dr. Jorge Enrique Soto, coordinator of the periodontics area in undergraduate studies, began the preliminary project, with the collaboration of the Director, at that time, Dr. Gerardo Umaña and Dr. Aristide Faralle. In 1993, Resolution 073 of November 1993 was issued, later there was a modification of the Resolution for the Academic Program and Resolution 007 of May 8, 1996 was issued, by which Art. 2 of Resolution 073 was modified and the curriculum of the Specialization in Periodontology was defined.
