The postgraduate courses of the School of Dentistry seek the development and expansion of knowledge by providing fundamental, important training in the areas of knowledge that respond to the needs of the community and the environment.

The academic training of postgraduate courses seeks to expand knowledge through research for the development of clinical skills and abilities that allow us to address the different oral health problems that affect our population.

The general objectives of the Academic Program are the following:

  1. Contribute to the comprehensive training of high-level professionals in the area of ​​Pediatric Dentistry and Maxillary Orthopedics, allowing for comprehensive, broad and socially and scientifically based training.
  2. Develop clinical and investigative experience and skills that enable the student to diagnose and treat all problems related to the specialty.
  3. To offer up-to-date training in the literature and management of techniques in Pediatric Dentistry and Maxillary Orthopedics.
  • Degree in Dentistry awarded by a national or foreign university, according to current regulations.
  • Compulsory Social Year completed or certified (Nationals)
  • Degree certifications indicating grade point average and position held.
  • Complete the admission form and pay the registration fees (non-refundable).
  • Pass the admission tests established for this purpose by the Office of Extension and Postgraduate Studies.
  • English proficiency exam.
  • Complete  resume.
  • Pass the interview conducted by the selection committee.

The profile of the specialist in Pediatric Dentistry and Maxillary Orthopedics of the Universidad del Valle is that of an advanced professional with extensive knowledge in the academic, scientific, social and technological areas who will be competent in:

  • Provide early patient care with a preventive and high-quality approach to the patient at all stages of development.
  • To diagnose deviations in growth and development processes in a timely manner, as well as alterations in the development of the child's occlusion, proposing solutions that integrate the various treatment philosophies.
  • Mastery of functional orthopedic techniques, preventive orthodontics and interceptive orthodontics to provide a timely response to the needs of early treatment of malocclusions.
  • Comprehensive management of maternal and child dentistry during the perinatal and postnatal period, assisting in the breastfeeding and feeding process.
  • Adaptation of the pediatric patient using different behavioral management techniques.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams for the treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate from birth.
  • Provide dental management of systemically compromised patients and care under general anesthesia.
  • You will be able to apply your knowledge in multidisciplinary care and research teams, and you will be qualified to develop work in the field of teaching and administration.
