General objective

To train specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a foundation for the management of alterations in the craniomaxillofacial system, derived from: growth and development abnormalities, inflammatory and infectious processes, trauma, neoplasms and associated systemic compromises, in order to recover health at the individual and community level.

Specific objectives 

• Provide access to technological resources and surgical techniques that can restore the dentofacial balance of craniomaxillofacial pathological conditions.

• Establish the study of basic sciences and clinical sciences as the support for the regeneration and recovery of the function of the structures of the craniomaxillofacial complex affected by: developmental disorders, trauma, infections, neoplasms, degenerative processes, violence, among others.

• Train specialists to form interdisciplinary teams that respond to patient needs.

• Develop professional, research and social assistance skills in accordance with the mission of the University, through updated pedagogical strategies for the generation of new knowledge.

• Degree in Dentistry awarded by a national or foreign university, according to current regulations.

• Compulsory Social Year completed or certified (Nationals).

• Degree certifications indicating grade point average and position held.

• Complete the admission form and pay the registration fees (non-refundable).

• Pass the admission tests established for this purpose by the Office of Extension and Postgraduate Studies.

• English proficiency exam.

• Complete resume.

Professional Profile

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist will be a professional who:

• Restores functional and aesthetic balance, resolving alterations that affect the craniomaxillofacial system and its interrelations with general health.

• It integrates interprofessional teams that respond to the most complex oral and maxillofacial health care, at the different levels of care of the Health System, through practice, research and social assistance.

• Investigates problems related to the craniomaxillofacial complex, recognizing the economic, cultural aspects and social determinants involved, from a comprehensive perspective to intervene and prevent them for the benefit of the health of the population.

• It comprehensively evaluates the different systems of the human body involved in the alteration of oral and maxillofacial health to make efficient and effective use of the support of specific diagnostic and laboratory images that guide pharmacological and/or surgical therapy, as well as the referral of people to other interdisciplinary teams for timely comprehensive care.

• Determines surgical risk and anesthetic risk by correlating, monitoring and coordinating all safety actions for comprehensive patient management.

Occupational Profile

The Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will be able to perform:

• As a surgeon in the care of the population that requires oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Emergency/Urgent Services, Outpatient Clinic or Hospitalization of the different levels contemplated in the Social Security System, as well as in private practice.

• In the coordination or direction of services related to the care of people who require the attention of a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, in an integrated manner with interdisciplinary teams in the health area and other professions.

• Having completed and passed the subjects of the academic program and fulfilled the credits of the same.
• Carry out the support of a research paper.
• Process the internal Clearance Certificate for the School and Library.
• Cover certification fees in accordance with the established institutional policies.
