The nursing specialization programs at Universidad del Valle are distinguished by the development of differential projects that promote the development of skills for clinical decision-making and the permanent improvement of specialized nursing care from strategic management.
In accordance with the Mission and Vision of the School of Nursing, the Academic Specialization Program in Oncology Nursing seeks to train specialist nurses:
Highly qualified to manage specialized nursing care and the development of evidence-based interventions that respond to the care needs of people at risk or with oncological disorders and their families.
Committed to the individual and collective health of people at risk or with oncological disorders and their families, through health promotion, prevention and early diagnosis of cancer, combined risk management, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative support, within the framework of intervention projects that contribute to improving the quality of life.
Leaders in oncology nursing care; with the ability to manage human, financial, material and technological resources that enable sustainability and contribute to sustainable human development.
Self-employed workers who contribute to interdisciplinary work to achieve specialized care, health promotion, prevention and combined risk management, rehabilitation and/or recovery, and palliative care for people at risk or with oncological disorders and their families, in the in-hospital, home, and institutional context.
The selection of applicants for postgraduate academic programs considers a qualification range between 0 and 100 points, assigned based on the results obtained in the following criteria, according to each type of program:
At the end of the Program, the Oncology Nursing Specialist will be able to: offer comprehensive care to this population and their families to promote their health, prevent problems, recover health or maintain better living conditions, coordinate actions and educate people. Their knowledge and skills allow them to provide direct care to children, adolescents and adults with cancer with a higher level of expertise. This specialized professional is characterized by their analytical capacity and clinical ability to assess the health status of the oncology patient, as well as by their quality to carry out diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
The Oncology Nursing Specialist can work at any level of care in the Colombian system, as a clinical specialist in hospital and outpatient Oncology services, in chemotherapy units and radiotherapy units. He or she can perform a role in public and private health institutions at all levels of care, working in the coordination of health promotion and cancer prevention campaigns. Offering care at home to people, their family, their caregivers, the community, specialized cancer treatment centers and palliative care services.
