Mission

Train physicians able to face Colombian reality and to respond to health needs at individual, family and community levels, in preventive, curative and rehabilitative manners. Train  doctors with initiative – creativity – who knows and use technology; which has capacity to produce and develop research projects applied in health; who can perform  leadership at a social level and could work in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary way with a futuristic vision, to achieve integral health of human being. The integrality must transcend to include the social, political, economic, cultural, scientific, and psychobiological environments, incorporating the highest ethical and humanist sense.

Vision

The Medicine and Surgery Program of the University of Valle, as one of the most important in the country that provides to society integral physicians with great clinical, humanistic and social projection capacities, aims to consolidate itself as a program of academic excellence, efficient, pertinent, competitive, transformer of society and with international transcendence.

Objectives

To train health professionals capable of promote, encourage and develop health actions, and address and solve problems generated by disease, in different stages of individuals life cycle, families and communities, through:

1. Promotion and maintenance of health.
2. Diagnosis, treatment of diseases and prevention of its squeals.
3. Physical and mental rehabilitation and development of adequate socio-cultural support that promotes them.

To make physicians able to perform in different scenarios of health work from research, clinical, family and community practices, and social actions in health. Consequently, he must develop necessary skills for interdisciplinary and teamwork that allow them to interact with other professionals, both in health area and other disciplines related within a relationship of deep human commitment.
