Mission

To train specialists in psychiatry with high ethical sense, performing in assistance or administrative manners in a psychiatric hospital, a mental unit inside a general hospital, and in primary and secondary levels of care services. To train specialist with comprehensive actions of promotion, prevention, care and rehabilitation; suitable for conducting research work that generates new disciplinary knowledge and contributes to solution of communitarian mental health problems; also qualified to train health professionals, including future psychiatric doctors.

Objectives

In order to reach necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes in a competent psychiatrist, it has been structured a curriculum that emphasizes during first year of residence in the management of patients with severe mental illness. In the second year, on patient care with concomitant physical and mental pathology, early detection and management at primary care levels of those patients whose pathology allows this, as well as the rehabilitation of the mental patient in a hospital. In the third year, it is taught aspects related to actions to promote mental health and prevention of mental illness; care of patients in specialized clinics especially of children and adolescents, and neuropsychiatric patients, and contribution in therapeutic teams aimed at  special groups of patients in a general hospital. Finally, follow-up of selected patients over the three years.
